On a worldwide map, the new online solution will visualize activities against plastic litter in waters and offer a crowdsourced collection of publications about plastic waste action relevant to the area shown on the map. In addition, it will allow for user interaction, such as spotting of large plastic accumulations.

Key functions

Monitoring plastic waste in river estuaries or coastal regions can help cleaning activities. Turbidity – measured by satellite sensors – can serve as a proxy for plastic debris. CCTV along tributaries contribute valuable imagery. Crowdsourcing serves two goals: it increases awareness and enriches the dataset.

The new online solution offers a worldwide overview on tracked plastic litter in rivers and coastal zones.

For this purpose, imagery of CCTV cameras, satellite-derived turbidity data as well as crowd-sourced data are integrated into the App. Users can zoom into areas of plastic pollution by means of a global map and simply access monitoring data of test regions – and soon of many more.

Spot & Upload

Engage in the crowdsourcing of information by uploading pictures of plastic waste you have detected on-site. The App provides automatic geo-reference and time for your uploads.

Share relevant information with the #zeroplasticwaste community! Be it research publications or interesting articles in mass media.
